A Historic Celebration of the 160th Anniversary of the 13th Amendment

A historic celebration of the 160th anniversary of the 13th Amendment marking end of slavery in the United States of America was held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park in Earlimart, California.

The event featured legendary, Grammy-winning saxophonist David Murray and critically-acclaimed pianist and composer George Burton, with selections from C. Anthony Bush’s gospel-jazz musical, Battle Hymn of a Freedman, honoring the 209,145 United States Colored Troops (USCT) soldiers who played a significant and active role in securing victory over slavery during the U.S. Civil War.
